Who we are
Open Books Toronto is a bookkeeping service based in Toronto, Ontario, operated by Yusuf Khaliq. Questions about this policy or about your personal information can be sent to your email address.
What we collect
When you use the contact form on this website, you choose to provide your name, your email address, your business name, and the content of your message.
When you submit that form, the information is transmitted to and stored by Netlify, the service that hosts this website, and is forwarded to us by email. Netlify is based in the United States, so your information may be stored and processed outside Canada and may be subject to the laws of that country, including lawful access by foreign authorities.
This website uses no cookies, no analytics, and no advertising or tracking technology of any kind. The form includes a hidden field used only to detect automated spam submissions.
If you become a client, we collect the additional information needed to do the work. That may include financial records, bank and credit card statements, and access to your accounting software.
Why we collect it

How we use and share it
We do not sell your personal information, and we do not share it with anyone for marketing purposes.
We share information only where it is needed to deliver the service, such as with our website host and accounting software you have asked us to use; where you have directed us to, such as with your accountant; or where the law requires it.
How long we keep it
Enquiries that do not lead to an engagement are kept only as long as needed to respond. Client records are retained for the period required by the Canada Revenue Agency, currently six years from the end of the tax year they relate to.
Keeping it secure
We use safeguards appropriate to the sensitivity of the information, including access-controlled devices and accounts. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, so absolute security cannot be guaranteed.
Your rights
Under Canada's Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA), you may ask what personal information we hold about you, ask us to correct it, and withdraw your consent to our use of it, subject to legal and contractual limits.
To make a request, contact your email address. We will respond within 30 days. If you are not satisfied with the response, you may contact the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada at priv.gc.ca.
